Cambodia entry rules:

  • A tourist visa can be applied for in advance online or upon arrival at Siem Reap/Phnom Penh airport.
  • To obtain a visa you need: a completed application form, 2 passport-sized photos and payment of a government fee (about 30-35 USD).
  • It is recommended to pay the fee in cash in US dollars. Payment in another currency may be more expensive due to conversion.
  • Visa on arrival is also available at some land checkpoints, but not all.
  • A tourist visa is valid for 30 days from the date of entry.
  • If you want to extend your visa, contact the migration office 7 days before the expiration date.

Safety Tips in Cambodia:

  • Attacks on tourists are extremely rare. However, be vigilant – pickpocketing and fraud are possible in crowded places. Do not show valuables in public and keep money and documents in safe places.
  • Theft is especially common on beaches and busy streets. Keep your bag in front of you and don’t leave your cell phone on a table in a cafe. Never leave your belongings unattended – they can disappear in minutes.
  • Rental car scams are a common form of fraud. Before you set off, take photos and videos of your motorcycle or car. This way you can prove there is no damage and prevent extortion.
  • Some tuk-tuk drivers will take you not to the right place but to their own establishment for a commission. Categorically refuse and ask them to take you back or drop you off.
  • Ignore the demands of people who pretend to be police officers and want to extort a bribe. Tell them your passport is at the hotel and leave.
  • Do not drink tap water to avoid jeopardizing your health. Use bottled water or water from travel filters.
  • Before traveling, make copies of your documents and leave a detailed itinerary for your family.
  • Be sure to take out health insurance that covers emergencies, accidents and injuries.
  • In case of an incident – theft, robbery, accident – call the police immediately at 119.
