There used to be a woman in a fur coat and manicured nails who would approach women around 57th St, saying she got pickpocketed and needed $20 to get her car out of the parking lot. When I pushed her to call her credit card company, once, she ran away. But over dinner a day or two later, a friend of mine confessed she gave her the $20. It’s a common scam, with all kinds of variations.
