My wife and I took a cruise around the horn of South America, starting in Santiago, Chile. We flew into Santiago and stayed at a downtown hotel that night. The next day we took a private car through BedsOnline, a huge international corporation. Our travel agent had recommended them to us.
We picked up on time and dropped off at the cruise terminal. The cost was supposed to be $ 180US. Much to our surprise and horror, after we returned home to California, we received a change bill on our CITI Costco card for $1,264.68!! Beds Online was not the payee, but rather some individual with a Spanish name.
We have been fighting with CITIBANK for two months about this charge, and although they keep removing it and putting it back every month, they are stonewalling us. Our travel agent is trying to assist us and has contacted BedsOnline. They have indicated that a company called ChileXclusive is their subcontractor for these transfers in Chile. The name of the driver is yet another name. Furthermore, the notice from BedsOnline says that the bills are payable to something called Club Turavia SA. Huh???
Anyway, the driver stopped in a slum area of Santiago and asked to be paid. We told him we believed we prepaid BedsOnline and have a receipt for that. He made me stay in his double-parked car while he took my wife to a dark room somewhere and said we must charge the trip and not pay cash.
We were under extreme pressure to get to the ship before it sailed so we had no choice we did not let him keep the charge card. Furthermore, he stated that it wouldn’t work and asked for a PIN!! Finally, he agreed to be paid in cash (another $80 US). We were robbed of over $ 1,300 by this thief!
