My family and I had a family vacation in Malaysia. Since we were already running late as per the itinerary we created for our trip and the weather felt hot, we neither booked via Grab nor rode the monorail going to Petronas Towers.
The first taxi we hailed said that he’ll take us to our destination at a fixed rate only. Of course, my parents didn’t agree since they want it to be metered. Petronas Towers are just near the Bukit Bintang area where we were staying so we shouldn’t be paying a high price.
The next taxi we hailed was trying to quote a fixed fare but my dad insisted that our fare should be metered. We rode the cab as soon as he agreed for a metered fare.
When we reached Petronas Towers, we were dumbfounded that the metered fare ended up higher than the fixed fare quoted by the first taxi driver. It turns out that the driver drove the long way and may have driven in circles which we aren’t aware of since we’re not a resident there.
Truly, it’s sometimes better to use Grab to avoid taxi scams or use public transportation.
