Just watched an American get his wallet stolen on the airport metro. Happened in seconds. Real pros. Feel so angry at myself I didn’t realise what they were doing sooner.
PSA if you ride metro don’t carry wallet in pocket. Back to wall at all times. They smell American tourists like a shark and blood. I’d suggest just getting taxi. They are cheap and quick.
BTW Greece is safe. In 3 years this is the first ‘proper’ crime I have seen like that, and I have rode the metro a lot. I guess that is why it shocked me so much.
I am willing to concede they might not have been Greek. They looked Greek and spoke Greek, but it’s not hard to look ‘Greek’ on the metro if you have black hair and maybe put on an old vest. Sorry to stereotype. I just don’t want everyone thinking they need to look out for ‘gypsies’ etc. when the real criminals blend right in so well.
