Hello guys, I’m here to warn you about Tuk Tuk scam in Bangkok.
If you want to visit the Grand Palace, you should know that it opens every day from 08.30 a.m. to 15.30 p.m.
If someone tells you that the Grand Palace is closed due to ceremony, they lie to you.
Methods of scammer: They come to talk with you very nice. Acting like they are tour guide. And then, they will tell you that the Grand palace is closed and invite you to go somewhere else. For example: tailor shops, jewelry shops or tourist information. (That you will pay just 20Baht per person or very low price for transportation but you will pay very high price for low quality travel itinerary or fake suits and jewelries with non-refundable price)
Target of scammers: alone traveller (espacial a woman), couple traveller, traveller with a map, a group of family, traveller who has not strong in English.
Tips to avoid scammer: Avoid to talk with someone on the street, someone who come to talk with you very friendly and offer to help you to plan a trip in Thailand. Sometime they tell you that they are government employees but you should realize that they are lying on you. You better just say no and close up the conversation quickly or walk away from them.
Why I come to warn you: Because I work with tourists and there are many tourists were scammed and ask me to help for refund their money. I can say it’s impossible to get your money back. Even if you go to police station or tourist police, they will refuse to help you. They will tell you that it’s a normal thing. (I think they get some commission from scammers too). Just only 5% can get their money back and they don’t get 100% money back.
So, if you don’t want to waste a lot of money with nothing. Don’t believe someone you don’t know. You may think Thais are kind and friendly. But someone see tourists as a bag of money.
I want you guys have a wonderful trip in Bangkok. This is just my suggestion. You will believe me or not, depends on your decision. I just don’t want to see tourists were scammed in my city anymore.
Hope you guys have a wonderful trip here.
