Gas Scam – 4 out of 5 times we all went to put gas different scams occurred.
1. We had them put gas and when we went to pay the guy who pumped it, handed him a bill. He then put it in his pocket and pulled out a smaller bill and said we gave him the wrong amount. At first we thought it was an honest mistake but realized after we accounted for our money, he scammed us.
2. We put gas a second time and this time actually looked at the bill and showed him 500 pesos. The guy put gas and came back and essentially did the same thing except this time he told us he gave the 50 pesos. He never put his hands in pocket but had palmed the money. We called him out on it and he denied it. There were translation issues and we really didn’t have a choice other than to let the guy have it.
3. The other family went to a different gas station and had to use the bathroom. Our friend handed the guy money to pump the gas in which he started but as soon as he went to the bathroom, the guy stopped and took off with the money.
4. We tried not to use cash after that and then credit card machines wouldn’t work. I started getting fraud alerts for $90k trying to be charged on one card and $40k on another. That’s right, a total of $130k for gas.
