How it works: The waiter guides you what fish you should get and there are no set prices. The fish is priced by the weight and it is really hard to estimate after you already ate them and they are swimming with Ouzo. Avoid these kinds of restaurants unless you want to pay 50 Euros per plate. The waiters also tend to throw in many ethnic appetizers without even asking as if they were free.
Set-up: Friendly waiters grab your attention and talk you into eating at their restaurant. There are no price tags on the menu. Nice food but very expensive.
Places to beware: Athens fish restaurants
What to do: Choose fish restaurants where they have fixed prices and the plates are not calculated according to the weight of the fish. Usually luxury restaurants tend to do this. You can still have a good time and nice food but who knows what they will write on the check.
