BEWARE OF THESE KIND OF TAXIS! We got scammed on the way to War Remnants Museum to Ben Tanh Market in Ho Chi Minh City. We planned not to take taxis to save money but we have bus to catch after Ben Tanh Market. These bunch of taxis are waiting outside the museum (touristy area). They told us that there are some area that do not permit unloading in taxis. The driver stopped not in the entrance of the market but in the street across it. We have to pay 380000VND according to the meter. I handed 400000VND composed of 100000VND bills. In a short moment, he handed 10000VND bills telling we paid the wrong bill. We are not aware of the scam so my friend handed another 500000VND and then he handed back a different bill. We do not have the 500000VND anymore so my friend was pretty sure she paid the right one. We got out of the taxi and told him that we were going to report him. There’s a possibility that plate number and company name are being changed regularly. If there’s no other choice than taking a taxi, make an emphasis of bills being hand over like count it one by one or take a video while paying.
Back in our hostel, we told the owner about what happened and she called the number found in the photo. It turned out that it was a fake taxi company. I’ll still recommend Vietnam but be extra careful when riding taxis or even paying the fare.
