We just arrived early at Sofia from Athens. We were watched by a man when we went to an ATM machine for some Bulgarian lev currency. Afterwards he approached us and said he was a taxi driver. We walked outside to a parked yellow taxi but w/ its own driver. We hesitated but were assured that the fare would be by meter. Long story short, we paid 65 Lev ($36) for the fare. Later I used our Rome to Rio App to check the estimated fare – it was suppose to be approx. 11 Lev ($6)! It definitely left a bad taste in our mouth for starting our visit in Bulgaria.
