How it works:
- You hand over a note and the cashier/seller claims that he needs to find some change. This is to bring the note out of sight so it can be swapped to a counterfeit.
- He then returns the counterfeit note to you insisting that he does not have change.
Places to beware:
What to do:
- Always observe how the notes are handled. For high value notes, you can even take a photo of it or try to remember its serial number.
- A real note should have a watermark and a metallic thread that runs through it. As for coins, a trick locals use is to bounce it off pavements – it should.
