How it works:
- Situation: a customs officer notes down your passport (e.g. name) and accommodation details and transmit this to a driver outside.
- Opening: the driver then writes your name and accommodation on a paper/board to intercept you as you come out.
- Set-up: what happens next: you are charged an inflated fee, may be robbed, or even sent to another hotel with the driver claiming that the hotel you booked is full/closed today.
Places to beware:
- Buenos Aires
What to do:
- If you have pre-arranged private transport, make sure to have the name and contact number of the driver before your trip.
