How it works:
- Opening: scammers, in groups of 3, drive around in a van posing as from a company. They approach you and claim that due to a corporate error (e.g. over-order by client; system error), they have products (e.g. speakers, electronics) which they need to clear and so can sell at lower than retail prices.
- Set-up: they will even issue receipts with shop names in case you need to change any defective products. Obviously, these receipts are fake.
Places to beware:
What to do:
- If someone signals a problem, avoid stopping or stepping out. Instead, stop a distance away to check.
- If someone genuinely needs help, call the police.
