How it works:
- Situation: the black history month is a month (February in US, Canada; November in UK) where important people and events of the African diaspora are celebrated.
- Opening: a scammer will first try to shake your hand, and not let go until you take a pamphlet from them, which they claim are facts about the black history month.
- Set-up: next, a payment will be demanded. If you refuse, they will question you loudly if you are a racist, coercing many to pay.
Places to beware:
- Toronto: CF Toronto Eaton Centre, St Lawrence’s market, Yonge-Dundas, Yonge and Eglinton, Bloor, Path underground network and Union Station
