How it works:
- Situation: most food places are fine and there is no need to be paranoid. Generally, it’s just a few shady places or opportunists which dabble in such tricks.
- Set-up: different tricks include serving a much more expensive bottle of wine/dish than what was ordered, displaying misleading prices (e.g. price of meat on the menu is per 100g but that is not reflected), prices on the menu is lower than the prices reflected on the receipt with the excuse that menu has not been updated, etc.
What to do:
- Choose: reputable places and avoid those promoted by touts.
- Check: menu (prices, fine print), itemized bill, and do not eat what was not ordered.
