How it works:
- Situation: like in other parts of Central/Eastern Europe (e.g. Czech Republic, Turkey), you may encounter shady money exchanges.
- Set-up: these money changers tend to advertise great rates, but hide certain terms and conditions. For instance, a high rate of commission may be charged, but this is “hidden” in small print. Also, the displayed rates may be different under different situations (cash vs travel checks) which they will not tell you before the exchange is done.

What to do:
- At a money changer, check the terms and conditions and ask how much you would get back for a certain amount of money before changing.
- Alternatively, you can also to change at banks which is unlikely to rip you off.
