How it works:
- Opening: so how this works is that as you approach the lake, a tout will intercept you and ask if you headed to the Lake for a boat tour. If yes, they will direct you to a shop (if you are driving, they can provide free parking) which is set up to look like an official tourist centre when it is not. It could also be that you may be blocked and allowed to drive through.
- Set-up: the scams here are that the free parking lots are public and not theirs anyway and with the guise of looking like an official tourist center they will get you commit to an overpriced tour (e.g. 40 – 50 Euros). Note that there are many other affordable options throughout the village. They may also try to rush you into making a rash decision by claiming that the boat is leaving soon.
Places to beware:
- Podgorica: Lake Skadar (e.g. Google Pelikan Restaurant for the stories)
What to do:
- Shop around for an affordable option.
