How it works:
- In Finland, taxi drivers can charge anything they want, so it is technically not a scam if they do “overcharge” you. However, they are legally required to tell you if a fare will cost more than 100 Euros.
Places to beware:
What to do:
- Sourcing: take a metered from a reputable cab company (e.g. Taksi Helsinki, FixuTaxi, Lahitaksi, VantaanTaksi). Alternatively, you can also consider using taxi booking apps (e.g. Uber, Bolt) or pre-arranging a pick-up.
- Photo: take a photo of the car plate and driver’s license.
- Overcharging: ensure meter is turned on or research a fair price to negotiate with – check online fare estimators, your hotel/hostel staff or taxi booking apps.
