Just a warning about the Cuc Tung bus. We came from Hoi An to Nha Trang last night. Avoid at all costs! We knew it would be bad but it was the only one I could find with a toilet…
Staff are rude and racist to anyone who is not Vietnamese. The first cuc tung bus arrived completely full (later found out this should have been our bus, it was going to nha trang), two backpackers were put on but didn’t have seats. The next bus came, everybody was waiting to get on. The driver told us to wait and let Vietnamese people push in front to get seats. The staff kept pulling at my boyfriends backpack wanting it in the hold, so they could steal it or items from it, but we refused and kept our bags with us.
They put so many people on the floor that both aisles were full of people meaning it was very difficult to get to the toilet (the toilet also made the bus stink of urine). This bus was going to Da Lat, we were the only two people going to Nha Trang. On my way back from the toilet I asked the staff if I could squeeze past to get back to my seat, they talked to each other in Vietnamese, laughed at me and wouldn’t budge.
When we stopped they had stolen my flip flops from the box at the front of the bus, and kept laughing at me when I asked where they were, talking amongst themselves and then laughing more. Beyond rude.
We asked the driver to open the luggage hold so we could see if they were there, but he refused. Shortly after moving again, the bus stopped and staff opened the luggage hold (did this many times) – the staff were obviously retrieving my hidden flip flops as they then reappeared in the same box they had disappeared from.
My boyfriend’s seat didn’t have a seatbelt. We also asked for the WiFi code. He said there’s no WiFi. I pointed to the network on my phone and said there is. He gave me the password. He then refused to give other tourists the password but happily gave it to the vietnamese. The driver dropped us off at 3.45am (supposed to arrive 6am) 6km from nha trang.
I told the driver we weren’t in nha trang and showed him Google maps. He shouted at me and told me to get out. He kept shouting in my face. I was standing in the door way, he then closed the doors on me and I had to jump out of the way. He then said he was taking us to Da Lat, I said no take us to nha trang. Then the driver hit me! So we had to get out there. Luckily we found a taxi and our hotel let us in.
