How it works:
- Many of the beggars you encounter on the streets of Lagos are merely putting on an act. Some may feign injuries (some even have medical reports!), some will beg with babies who are not theirs and others may claim to be stranded and ask you to help subsidize their transport fee.
- The real situation is that these beggars are hired as a part of gang – any donation goes to the master/pimp. Further, some aren’t even Nigerians. This fake begging also happens not just offline, but online as well.
Places to beware:
- Lagos: streets, markets, buses
